Measure and understand your flow.
As you move cards on your Kanban board, every column that the card touches is tracked. The columns associated with the column states of In Progress (yellow) and Buffer (orange) are used to calculate the flow efficiency percentage by using this formula: (In Progress Time / (In Progress Time + Buffer Time)) x 100%.
You will see your flow efficiency score in the Metrics menu and on top of the detailed chart below.
Once you click on the Flow Efficiency report, you will see all your cards grouped by their respective flow efficiency percentage. As shown above, 62 cards had a 33.3% flow efficiency, 7 cards had 50%, 2 cards had 55.67%, and 43 cards had a perfect flow of 100%. The flow efficiency for the period shown was 42.86%.
