A book is a huge project. Writing a book can seem impossible, especially if you don’t have a system to organize your effort. With our Writing a Book Template, you get to visualize your progress on your book, making sure that you always know what to do next.

Book Writing Process Made Simple

Writing a Book Template is a template that we developed to help you write your first book. You’ll be guided through the process of writing your book, from outlining to getting feedback from your editor.

Think of this template as your book dashboard. Each time you open the board, you get to see your daily goal and other reminders such as your writing schedule. You also get to visualize the work that’s being done, by flowing the cards (chapters or sections) through the columns, going from Research to Writing to Done.

This template also serves as a collaboration tool between you and your editor. Just invite your editor to the board as a collaborator, so they will be able to monitor your progress and comment on the card.

What is included in the template?

This template includes:

  • Six main columns: Ideas, Reminders, To Do, Research, Writing, and Done
  • Three subcolumns in the Writing column: First Draft, Revise and Edit, and Second Draft
  • Four labels: Beginning, Middle, End, and Resources

How to Use the Template

  1. Start your Free Trial, then build a new board from the Writing a Book Template.
  2. Fill out the cards in the Reminders column. Outline your book, define your daily writing word count, and decide on your writing routine.
  3. Add your ideas as cards to the Ideas column. Assign the corresponding label to the card.
  4. Add an outline to your card, and move it to the To Do column.
  5. Move the card to the Research column and do some research on the topic.
  6. When you start writing, move the card to the First Draft column.
  7. After you’re done with your first draft, move on to the Revise and Edit column. Invite your editor to comment on your draft.
  8. Then, move the card to the Second Draft column and work on your second draft.
  9. Finally, after you’re finished editing the second draft, move the card to the Done column and celebrate!
